LOCAL HISTORY SERVICES :: lending resource center

A substantial lending library of reference and "how-to" materials is maintained by the LHS Department. The Center contains books, technical leaflets, and videos on a variety of topics, including archives management, conservation, disaster planning, board development, museum management, and much more.

The purpose of the Center is to provide program and technical resources to organizations and individuals engaged in collecting, preserving, researching, and/or interpreting Indiana's history.

Eligible borrowers include historical societies, museums, libraries, genealogical groups, and Indiana Historical Society staff and board members.

Lending Resource Center Guidelines

To arrange a loan from the Lending Resource Center, contact the Local History Services Department.

The normal lending period is four weeks. Extensions may be granted if there are no pending requests for the borrowed materials. Requests for extensions should be directed to the Local History Services Department.

Up to four publications may be borrowed at a time. There are no limitations on the number of times requests may be made.

Materials may be ordered over the telephone or through the mail. To order materials, cite the author and title if known.

Clearly and fully state the borrower's name, telephone number, and mailing address (including zip code), to which publications are to be mailed. Include the name of the historical organization which the borrower represents.

Borrowers are financially responsible for lost or damaged items.

No charge is made for this service, however the borrower is required to pay return postage.

Historical organizations are encouraged to suggest materials which should be added to the Lending Resource Center. Send suggestions to the Local History Services Department.
